FAQ

How big do your puppies get?

Our Bernese Mountain Dogs are solidly built, with females usually weighing between 80 and 105 pounds and males between 110 and 130 pounds. Their size is typical of the breed and contributes to their strength and versatility as both working dogs and family pets.

How much does a Bernese mountain dog shed?

Bernese Mountain Dogs do shed, but it's very manageable with regular brushing. Unlike some breeds, their fur doesn't tend to stick to clothing as much, making it easier to clean up. Their shedding is a natural part of having a dual coat, which is important for keeping them comfortable by helping regulate their temperature in both warm and cool weather. With some routine grooming, the shedding can be kept under control while ensuring their coat stays healthy.

Where are you located?

We are located in northern Utah, in a small town with plenty of space for our dogs and puppies to run and play. The open environment gives them room to explore and stay active, which helps them grow and thrive.

How do I start the reservation process?

Start by filling out our puppy application, which helps us ensure a great fit for your home. Once we’ve reviewed your application, we’ll set up a phone call to get to know you, answer questions, and discuss next steps. If it’s a match, we’ll secure your reservation with a deposit. Puppy selection happens between 6 and 7 weeks, based on availability and order of reservation. We’ll then arrange for pick-up or delivery when your puppy is ready to go to their new home.

When can the puppies go to their new home?

We allow our puppies to join their families after they are nine weeks old. We believe in giving them extra time with their moms, and waiting to administer their vaccinations until they are eight weeks to provide a healthy start before transitioning to their new homes.

SEE WHAT PEOPLE SAY

The Richards Family

"Silversmith Puppies were amazing to work with. We bought our dog Weller (a full Bernese Pikes and Riggy) from them about three months ago and have loved every second with him.  We chose the Smiths to get a puppy from after watching their dedication and love of their puppies.  We are so glad we did.  The Smith family is very easy to work with.  They communicate well and respond quickly.  Melanie answered every question that I had, and then gave extra information that really helped as well."

Alexa Womack

"This past May my family and I were honored to get our Rue Pikes (we named her after her mom & dad) from Silversmith puppies! When I first discovered Melanie & her family on instagram, I was actually on a list with another breeder (MDC) and the treatment I was being given was absolutely horrible. But seeing the interaction Melanie and her family have together raising their puppies, I took a leap of faith and got ahold of her. She is the most God sent woman I have ever met in life!"

April & Corey Hansen

"Silversmith Puppies gave us our dream Dog  Roan now named Chad! We are OBSESSED!  We get so many compliments even from Bernese owners on Chad's Looks when out and about. The process for reserving was easy and we had 3 choices in mind and after Melanie talked to us via facetime with our puppy choices she narrowed it down and suggested 2 puppies out of our top 3 that she felt would fit well with us. Bringing our new puppy home was a great experience and he adjusted pretty quickly."
